The area located northwest of Beaumont, Texas in Hardin County consists mostly of dense forestland, known as the Big Thicket, and a collection of small towns including Silsbee, Lumberton, and Kountze, the county seat. Located in the flat coastal plains of Southeast Texas within close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, the area plays a key role in the United States oil and lumber industries.
