Neighborhood - Lower Roxbury

Lower Roxbury

Part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the village of Roxbury was established in 1630 and became a rural center point for Boston, providing food to the dense surrounding city. Lower Roxbury extends from Tremont Street on the west side to Massachusetts Avenue on the east. Melnea Cass Boulevard and Malcolm X Boulevard form the north and south border, respectively.

Lower Roxbury is adjacent to Northern University, which borders the neighborhood on its northwest side. The Boston University School of Medicine is located on the northeast side of the neighborhood. With these two nearby universities, and the University of Massachusetts Boston just a short distance away, apartments in Lower Roxbury are a great option for students.
