About This Home

12 Month Lease, C$100 deposit, Available Dec 28

This is a lovely older home in the heart of the Glebe, a mixed socioeconomic neighbourhood, but primarily populated by light-skinned folks. It's central location means that you can walk to all three universities: Ottawa, St. Paul's and Carleton, as well as several neighbourhoods including Centretown, Main, Old Ottawa South and Chinatown. If you travel along the Rideau Canal you can also access the Rideau and Byward Market areas. This is a walker's paradise with multiple grocery stores nearby - Metro, Loblaws Nicastro - an Italian specialty store, and the Independent; 15 to 20 minutes north on Bronson takes you into Chinatown with all of it's popular grocers, corner stores and restaurants. There are many cafes, restaurants and several chain fast-food joints within minutes. There are several bakeries including the Wild Oat which has the best challah ever! Fire-baked bagels and large chewy bretzels are available at Kettleman's Bagels. Landsdowne, yes, that controversial development, is about 20 minutes south along Bank Street and houses a stadium, a cultural hall and a large exhibit space where the Farmer's Market is held. An LCBO, Indigenous Cafe, several banks, Whole Foods and a wide variety of restaurants make up the balance of the space. There are yoga studios, a Pilates studio, and other similar fitness oriented businesses along Bank Street. Shopper's Drug Mart is located within a few blocks; there is a postal office within it. The main post office is on Third Avenue. We are surrounded by green space - dog parks, the Canal and Dow's Lake to the south. There is a multi-use pathway along the canal, which is well-lit and used 24/7.

This apartment is located on the main floor of a 1910's Glebe neighbourhood home. There are six wide steps that lead to a covered porch; there is no railing. Once inside the floor is mostly level with a 1" transition into the kitchen and a less than 2" transition to the laundry and storage room. The foyer has large hooks for outdoor clothing, and a sturdy coffee table for sitting on as needed to put on or remove outdoor wear. There is a mirror. The available room is at the front of the apartment with a large window that receives primarily northwestern light. There is a functional blind. There is a faux fireplace with wood surround including mantel. There is a full-length framed mirror. The room contains a double bed, desk, desk chair and a small dresser; lamp, garbage can and an extra chair. There is no closet but an over-the-door hook that holds about 6 - 8 hangers. Linens can be included - almost are 100% cotton. The apartment has a multi-use living room-office, an eat-in kitchen, bathroom with soaker tub, and en-suite laundry and storage room. Through the storage room is a large back deck that gets lovely light from morning through mid-day. There is one parking spot, suitable for a smaller car. The apartment is shared with me, a 63+ year old, more Gen X than Boomer, woman with chronic illnesses and mobility impairments, Jewitch/Hebrew Priestess, social justice activist, who works from home. I love books, houseplants and container gardening, and good vegetarian food - my diet is limited due to chronic illness. I have my own bedroom. You are 18 to 99 years of age ( under 18s will be considered) female, who is vegan - vegetarian - ESSENTIAL; willing to live without peanut products. No pets. You may study, work or be a senior. You enjoy or at least tolerate the CBC; are clean and sober; tidy, relatively clean and organised and agree to keep the space so. You will share all spaces.

City - Ottawa

Ottawa, the capital of Canada, is located in southeastern Ontario. Originally known as a trading and lumber city, Ottawa became the capital in 1867. Due to its location between English-speaking Ontario and French-speaking Quebec, Ottawa is one of the most bilingual cities in Canada. The metropolitan area spans the Ottawa River, giving residents beautiful scenic views of the city. Ottawa’s largest employer is the federal government. If you work in other industries, many jobs are also provided by the technology and telecommunications sectors. The University of Ottawa and Carleton University are also located in the city. Along with tons of employment and education options, Ottawa offers plenty to do.

Residents enjoy opportunities for outdoor activities in large parks and green spaces. Check out Rideau Canal National Park, one of the oldest landmarks.
