The peaceful, tree-filled village of Monee, home of about 5,000 residents, provides that small-town, Midwestern feel -- but it's ideally located along I-57, roughly 35 miles southwest of Chicago. Its restaurants range from local hangouts to major chains, and it offers the same variety in its shops and businesses. Monee is adjacent to Governors State University, and it is directly north of Raccoon Grove Nature Preserve.
Established in 1853, Monee was founded by early settler Augustas Herbert. Local legend has it that Monee was named for a Pottawatomie princess -- a treaty left her four daughters some land, which is now Raccoon Grove. You'll discover some terrific destinations when you move to a Monee apartment, from the nearby golf courses to the nearby Will County Fairground.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
