City - Cudahy
The tiny city of Bell extends from the Los Angeles River westward, toward the border of Huntington Park. It is considered a suburb of Los Angeles, located about eight miles south of Downtown LA. Bell was named for James George Bell, the city's founder. Bell purchased property near Los Angeles in 1875 to establish a cattle farm. He rented land out to other farmers, and soon the area developed into a small community known as Obed. The name was changed in 1898 to honor Bell. Bell's son founded Bell Petroleum Oil Company and used that money to establish another LA community, Bel-Air.
Once you've found your Bell apartment, be sure to visit the James George Bell House, which now serves as a museum featuring artifacts from the city's early history. You'll find a variety of shops, restaurants, and businesses along Atlantic Avenue. Across the river, I-710 is easily accessible for commutes into LA.
