But unlike other downtowns, Downtown Texarkana serves two cities: Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas. Downtown Texarkana's western border is the state line, and the courthouse straddles both states.
Founded in 1873 as a railroad stop, Downtown Texarkana still has that Old West style. Historic destinations include the P.J. Ahern Home, built in 1905 and now a museum. The Lindsey Railroad Museum explores the Texarkana's history as a railroad stop in the 1870s, with the Cairo & Fulton Railroad on the Arkansas side and the Texas & Pacific Railroad on the Texas side. Other museums include the Discovery Place Children's Museum and the Museum of Regional History.
