Neighborhood - Frankford
Many consider Frankford one of the most important and iconic residential neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Originally a large milling area, Frankford showcases many historic sites, including the Cedar Park Cemetery, the Comly Rich House (the first home to receive a mortgage), and Enoch Edwards' house, where Thomas Jefferson and other Revolutionary rock stars partied after the passage of the Declaration of Independence.
Today, Philadelphians think of this part of the city as a tight community with plenty of parks and school options for families. Many residents are fourth or fifth generation Frankfordians, although the neighbors welcome newcomers. Most residents own cars, but the Market-Frankford Line begins (or ends) here, and brings commuters to Center City (eight miles south) in about 20 minutes. Many SEPTA buses also service the neighborhood. Housing options mostly consist of darling rowhomes with front yards, but there are also apartments for rent.
