The home was originally built by artist/writer Pedro Joseph de Lemos, who built the home as his Carmel art studio in 1926. He was the first president of the Carmel Art Association and is considered an influential Craftsman-era artist and educator, and was the director of the Stanford University art museum and gallery from 1917 to 1945. The home has been designed to let in natural light through many windows. Plaster walls, Carmel stone fireplaces, and country French furnishings add to the relaxed ambiance.
