A short distance west of downtown Akron sits Akron West, a predominantly residential area with an abundance of homes lining its orderly, tree-lined streets. Several municipal parks in the neighborhood provide places for residents to get out and play, with Erie Island Park a particular favorite. Local football and baseball teams use the fields there for practice and for playing games. The neighborhood borders the Akron Zoo, a favorite of both locals and tourists.
Route 59, which runs a short distance east of the neighborhood, provides residents easy access to downtown part of the city. Interstate 77, which goes through the west side of the neighborhood, takes you to other parts of the state.
