Sitting directly north of Trenton and surrounded by schools that include the College of New Jersey, Princeton University, and Mercer County Community College, Lawrence Township is a beautiful community that’s home to Rider University – making this an ideal location for students. This heavily wooded community contains beautiful, historic architecture that dates back to the American Revolution, a rural atmosphere that belies its proximity to Trenton, the headquarters of Bristol-Myers Squibb, and miles of parks. In fact, it’s often said that Lawrence is a town where “nature smiles for 22 miles.”
Lawrence Township dates back to 1697, when it was part of the Maidenhead Township. The name was changed in 1816 in honor of Captain James Lawrence, a hero of the War of 1812. Its Main Street Historic District was one of the first historic districts named in New Jersey. The Anderson-Brearley Tavern, which dates back to 1758, is located on Main Street, as is the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
