NoMad — short for North of Madison Square Park — begins at its namesake park and extends to West 30th Street. Madison Square Park became a park in 1847, named for President James Madison. In 1832, the first Madison Square Garden was built at the corner of 26th Street and Madison Avenue. Before it moved uptown, it was the site of Ringling Brothers circuses, theatrical performances, and the site of the 1924 Democratic National Convention.
