New Hartford is a small town across Sauquoit Creek from the southwest corner of Utica. It’s primarily a quiet residential community, with a shopping center on the north side and a small downtown district around the intersection of Genesee Street and Campion Road being the major retail centers in town.
The local public schools perform very well, and Utica College is less than ten minutes up Highway 5. Being practically right next door, New Hartford residents enjoy easy access to Utica’s amenities as well, including the huge Roscoe Conkling Park, the Utica Zoo, and Utica Memorial Auditorium.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
