The best most interesting grocery store in the east bay (that isn't owned by Amazon and isn't Crazy expensive), Berkeley Bowl, is a little over 2 blocks away. There is a sweet little Mexican restaurant just beyond Berkeley Bowl. The best (in my opinion) Japanese restaurant in the area, Kirala, is 4 blocks. There is a wonderful branch of the Berkeley Public library a block away, and even more exciting, there is an adjacent tool lending library, so for instance on a hot day you can borrow an ice cream maker to churn your own fresh ice cream. A local market is 2 blocks off. Shotgun Players Theater is also a 2 blocks off. The delicious local tradition known as "Thai temple brunch," happens every Sunday at the nearby Thai temple, which is next to the library. The weekly South Berkeley Farmers market is a 13-minute walk. An eclectic, weekend market with vendors offering antiques, collectibles & handmade crafts happens every weekend near the BART station, a 6 minute walk away.
