It is the rear unit (i.e., the rear-half of the house that's faced away from the street and to the big backyard) in a Craftsman house from the 1890s, and it has its own, separate entrance. Included is very large, private, fully fenced backyard/garden, with lemon, fig, and redwood trees. It's an oasis of green and garden hidden on the South side, 5 blocks from the UC campus. The kitchen has direct access to a private sitting area (photo), allowing for an easy inside-outside California life (dinner under the stars!). The flat features original details (see photo), tall ceilings, hardwood floors, etc. There is a large eat-in kitchen with gas range and dishwasher. One bedroom is generously sized (see photo--the current tenants are using that as their LR); the other is smaller and could also serve as a quiet office with a view into the side yard. Photos also show the rear-view and side-view of the house, sitting areas directly accessible from the kitchen, entrance, bedroom, kitchen and dining room (which the current tenants are also using as an office), view out to the garden from the kitchen window, and driveway (for parking) with an ancient olive tree leading up to the separate entrance to the rear unit. The location is excellent, just 5 blocks to UC Berkeley and close to cafes, restaurants, stores, etc. The photos are snapshots I've just taken in June. And the tenants' bike, visible in a photo of the rear view of the house, is not included in the rental... The current tenants (a lovely couple in their early 30s) lived here happily for 2+ years but one of them got a job offer on the East Coast and thus they would like move out by July 1. Before that, two graduate students shared the space. Some 25+ years ago, I (still the owner) lived here when I started at UC as an Assistant Professor, and I still love the house and the location, so I want to keep it all in good shape. The flat is not yet empty and I just found out that the garden needs some love and attention--I hadn't seen it in a while but we can deal with that. It's available for move-in by July 1. **Open House: We will be showing the flat on Tuesday June 17, 2025, from 4 -6 pm.** The address is 2609 Dana St., Rear Unit. The cross streets are Parker and Carleton. To enter, walk up the *driveway* on the right side of the house and turn left to go through the gate. You are welcome to drive by but please do not disturb the tenants or workers; the open house does not start until 4:00 pm. Contact me if you can't make the open house. We'll probably have another open house later.
