Neighborhood - Harvard Square
One of the most iconic locations in Boston has to be Harvard Square, a place where people have gathered since 1630. Harvard Square borders Harvard Yard, the historic heart of Harvard University. Harvard Yard is the oldest section of the campus and is enclosed by 27 gates. Harvard Yard was built in 1718.
The neighborhood of Harvard Square extends out from the triangular plaza of Harvard Square, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood borders the Charles River on its south side. While you may be competing with a variety of student houses, try to find your Harvard Square apartment near the Charles River for beautiful views and easy access to the Dr. Pau Dudley White Bike Path.
In addition to Harvard University, the area is home to the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and the Museum of Natural History. Cambridge Common Park, also a National Historic Landmark, covers 16 acres next to Harvard Square.
