Neighborhood - Fordham Manor

Picture of Fordham Manor Bronx

Fordham Manor

Fordham Manor is a heavily-populated neighborhood in the Bronx, home to about 43,000 residents. It includes Fordham University and stretches from I-87 and the Harlem River east to the Bronx Park, home of the Bronx Zoo.

With a history dating back to Colonial times, the oldest section of the neighborhood is Old Fordham Village. This section dates back to around 1751, and several historic buildings are located on the university campus.

Fordham is a fantastic neighborhood with a colorful history -- it is said that the Fordham University Church bell is named in honor of Edgar Allan Poe, who lived out his final years in Fordham (the house still stands). The bell's name is "Old Edgar" and some believe that Poe was inspired by the bell to write his famous poem, "The Bells."

Downtown Manhattan is just eight miles southwest; you'll be able to take the Subway or train and get there in less than 30 minutes after moving to your Fordham Manor apartment.
