Neighborhood

The historic South End district sits about one mile south of Springfield, Massachusetts, along the Connecticut River. I-91 runs along the western edge of the neighborhood, allowing commuters to reach the Pioneer Valley's Five College area in about 35 minutes. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame resides in the South End, recognizing Springfield's place in history as the birthplace of basketball.

The South End has a small commercial strip covering several blocks of Main Street, with multi-family homes for rent lining the tiny side streets. Enjoy Neapolitan-style pizza at the family-run Red Rose Pizzeria, then take home some traditional Italian pastries for dessert from La Fiorentina Pastry Shop. The Italian Cultural Center of the South End hosts many activities and cultural events for the community. Take a language class, view Italian films, or try your hand at making gnocchi. Each fall, join other locals at the center's Festa Italia for food and fun.
