Located about 30 miles south of Macon and about 13 miles southwest of Warner Robins, Perry offers Southern charm, a slower pace, and convenience to two larger cities. Established around 1820, the small settlement was first known as Wattsville. There's some question as to why the settlers renamed their village Perry, but some believe it was after a war hero, Commodore Perry. Residents can visit the Perry Historical Society to learn more about the town's history.
Perry is best known as the location of the Georgia National Fair, an 11-day event held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter. This event includes livestock, agricultural, and horse shows, fine arts, events, midway rides and games, live concerts, fireworks, and other entertainment. Perry's attractive downtown features brick-paved sidewalks, shade trees, and benches. The historic architecture contains a variety of charming boutiques, antique stores, gift shops, and restaurants.
