The area located northwest of Beaumont, Texas in Hardin County consists mostly of dense forestland, known as the Big Thicket, and a collection of small towns including Silsbee, Lumberton, and Kountze, the county seat. Located in the flat coastal plains of Southeast Texas within close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, the area plays a key role in the United States oil and lumber industries. Northwest Beaumont also provides a pastoral backdrop for many low-rise apartment communities that make for convenient living in this section of Texas. Highway 287 and 96 connect residents to the more urban sections of Beaumont, but there’s still plenty to see and do in this rural locale.
