The majority of these islands feature peaceful beaches, marshlands, and wildlife refuges. Located minutes from downtown Savannah, these islands provide a home to a variety of birds and other animal species and draw visitors from all parts of the country.

Residents of these beautiful islands enjoy a quiet retreat close to one of the country's most awe-inspiring cities. In addition to spectacular beaches, places like the Oatland Wildlife Center draw visitors, who come to explore the natural wonders and wildlife of the outer islands. When residents can pull themselves away from the quiet beaches and dazzling sunsets, they head to Savannah to explore the shops and restaurants along the river, walk the haunting squares, and attend events like the SCAD Savannah Film Festival and the Savannah Food and Wine Festival.
