Neighborhood - Washington Park
Washington Park is a somewhat triangular-shaped neighborhood of Boston delineated by Seaver Street and Columbus Avenue to the west and Warren Street to the east. Sandwiched between the neighborhoods of Jamaica Plains, Brookline, Dorchester, and Upham’s Corner, it consists entirely of the Roxbury neighborhood. Half the homes here are valued under $200,000 and the median apartment rental is half the city average.
The small village of Roxbury was established by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630, and much of that long history is still visible in the Washington Park neighborhood. You'll find it in beautiful Franklin Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in the late 1800s. This park was home to the country's first municipal golf course. As the largest park in Boston's "Emerald Necklace," Franklin Park is considered the crowning jewel. It contains the William J Devine Golf Course, play areas, the Franklin Park Zoo, and the Overlook Ruins.
