With a fascinating history dating back to 1650 when the area was settled by the Dutch, Franklin Township spent most of its time as a rural community. And while it is still mostly forested and provides several lakes and streams, the population has grown significantly in the last 10 years. It has become such a popular location that often ranks on “best places to live” lists.
Franklin Township is home to several important historic buildings and locations, including the Franklin Inn, which was built in 1752 by Cornelius Van Liew. Rockingham, a historic house built in 1710, served as George Washington’s first headquarters. Other significant historic sites include the Van Wickle House, built in 1722, and the Wyckoff-Garretson House, built in 1730.
Franklin Township is a family-friendly community with excellent transit for commuters. It has top-rated schools, including a National Blue Ribbon School, Cedar Hill Preparatory School.
