South Bend's Southside neighborhood has undergone a metamorphosis of sorts in the modern era. The neighborhood developed around a Studebaker automobile plant in the mid-20th century, and the neighborhood still retains some of its industrial roots. Today, the corporations in South Bend include Honeywell and AM General. The area that used to contain the Studebaker plant now houses Ignition Park, a technology and business park that’s home to a large number of employers. As a sister facility to Innovation Park on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, the two parks team up to create attractive locations for companies on the cutting edge of technology. The University of Notre Dame lies just seven miles north of the neighborhood, offering a wide variety of educational and employment opportunities.
Modest apartment communities and single-family home rentals can be found in the northern region of Southside South Bend, providing easy access to the city center.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
