You're only 10 minutes from Lakes Park with bike and paddle boat rentals, playground, mini-train ride, picnic pavilions, and bike/jog paths. You have easy access to Fort Myers Beach, which is only 20 minutes from your doorstep, and the world renowned beaches of Sanibel Island. Get there at the right time and you can find some incredible sea shells. If sailing is more your thing, you've got that too. There are several local marinas, and you can take sailing lessons or rent your own boat or catamaran. You can learn to scuba dive as well--there are several reefs right near Fort Myers. You can rent a jet ski or go parasailing, or charter a boat to go deep sea fishing. You can swim with dolphins off Sanibel Island or go on sightseeing tours to view manatees or alligators. Do you like Baseball? In February and March, spring training for the Boston Red Sox is right in Fort Myers only 18 minutes away, and the Minnesota Twins training camp is only 13 minutes away. There are several great public golf courses in the Fort Myers area. The Fort Myers Country Club has a public course and it's only 15 minutes away. The Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall is just a few minutes away. You can see broadway shows, live concerts, plays, and orchestral performances. If you prefer quieter, more intellectual pursuits, you're only 5 minutes from the Lakes Regional Public Library--it's just outside our Parker Lakes community. Join local online groups and find new friends who enjoy the same things you do! Day Trips - Activities within driving distance: Spring training camp for the Tampa Bay Rays is only an hour away in Port Charlotte. Ninety minutes to the Baltimore Orioles camp in Sarasota, ten minutes further out you'll find the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton, and the New York Yankees are two hours away in Tampa. If regular season baseball is more to your liking, you've got the Tampa Bay Rays or the Miami Marlins. Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando are two hours north, as is Busch Gardens. If you like big city life, Tampa is two hours away and Miami is less than three. The NFL's Buccaneers and Dolphins are within reach. The Kennedy Space Center is just under 4 hours northeast of your condo. If you're a science guy like me, this is a must see. You can even view live rocket launches from KSC--they happen on almost a monthly basis. The Everglades National Park is a few hours south. Key Largo is about 3 hours south, or if you want to go all the way you can make a run along the Overseas Highway to Key West. So there's a start. There are many other activities beyond what we've mentioned here, but this is a good sampling. Whether you're staying for a month or a year, you won't run out of things to do.
