Franklin is a small suburban city along Interstate 75, roughly fifteen miles south of Dayton and 35 miles north of Cincinnati; this central location makes Franklin a popular option among commuters who work in the neighboring cities. Most of Franklin’s landscape is covered by residential neighborhoods, with the local rental market split between apartments and single-family homes.

Most of the shopping and entertainment in town can be found along Central Avenue east of the interstate, with a charming Downton district along Main Street full of historic buildings housing cafes, taverns, and other small businesses.
