We understand it can be a challenge knowing how to help your loved ones transition to assisted or independent living. That's why we've built a caring community where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can realize their fullest potential in a safe, family style environment. Wauwatosa's newest residential living center, staffed by the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus, opened in October of 2019 providing independent and assisted living apartments for ambulatory adults (ages 21+) with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). All apartment units are ADA accessible and fully furnished. Each unit includes a private bathroom, living room, kitchenette and dinning area along with pantry cabinets and a storage closet. Appliances include a stainless steel refrigerator and optional microwave. Modern décor and large windows create a bright welcoming feeling. One all inclusive monthly fee includes gas, water, sewer, heat, air conditioning and electric fees. Also included are cleaning services provided on a weekly basis. Toiletries and basic supplies are provided (bathroom tissue, paper towel, facial tissue, laundry soap, hand soap, dishwashing soap). Day, weekend and evening programming is offered onsite including fitness classes, arts & crafts and a variety of faith based activities. A meal plan is also included with the monthly fee offering three meals prepared daily and one snack available in the common dining hall. Rooms may vary slightly from images provided. Common areas and building amenities include a large dinning room, exercise room, recreation room and onside laundry facilities. The secure building entry is staffed throughout the day and early evening by a receptionist who is also available to assist with transportation or other resident needs. A staff member or Carmelite Sister is onsite 24/7 with nursing staff and a social worker available on call. The CMST community encourages residents to broaden their horizons, establish friendships and strengthen their connections to the greater community. Our experienced staff offers residents the care, individual attention and real-world skills they need to thrive. Our activities and programming include both individual coaching and group activities available to all residents.
