(929) 351-2644 - Formerly 117 East 71st St, the existing structure is a gut-rehab of the double-width brownstone of Elsie de Wolfe, Lady Mendl. She and her husband Sir Charles Mendl lived primarily in Paris, but when in New York they together entertained at 117 although Lady Mendl continued to live with Elizabeth Marbury at 13 Sutton Place. The very spare façade of the English-basement house was set back 11 feet from the property line, allowing for a landscaped terrace two steps down from the sidewalk. The 50’ wide house had three large reception rooms on the parlor floor, eight bedrooms on the floors above, and 13 servants’ rooms in the penthouse.
