About This Home
This is a 3 bedroom property that will be available in late April or early May 2026. It is renting for $1800 a month an included the heat, water, whereas the tenants pay for electricity. It is pet friendly for cats/dogs. Each four legged friend costs an additional $50 per month in rent. Dogs are subject to review by tmyself and the insurace policy. I know that dogs' behaviors are largely the result of the owner, but insurance companies do not care. Certain breeds, such as Pit Bullls and German Shepherds fall into this category and those dogs are not at fault. To get around this, a prospective tenant may have such a dog by contacting my insurer and I think that might be around $100 a year, but don't hold me to that and that is a future discussion that can be tabled for now. I love pets, and, as a result, all 13 of my properties are pet friendly. Anyway, back to the property, heat, water/sewage, trash, snowplowing, are included in the rent along with snow plowing. The tenants are resonsible for a minimal of snow removal fron the walks, which is about 9 square feet. There are two entrances into the basement, one from Montezuma Avenue and one from within the apartment. The basement has ample storage space and a sump pump, just in case, that many people thought I was stupid for installing until the 2018 infamous "Father's Day Flood" occurred. Unlike many properties in the area, my tenants' stuff was not ruined, This basement also has a coin-free washer and dryer. The kitchen has vinyl floors, but the rest of the first level has wood floors. Going up the stairs, it is all carpet and the bathroom has a shower, and, of course, a toitlet. The apartment is only one block up from the Houghton nightlife, such as the Downtowner, Ambassador, etc. It also is less than one block away from the MTU Shuttle line on East Houghton Avenue. I'm sure that I have neglected to include certain details, so please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your interest in my property.

With its rolling hills that lead down to the waterfront, Houghton is uniquely positioned on the Keweenaw Peninsula that stretches into Lake Superior. The waterfront area, including Shelden Ave. and Montezuma Ave., house upscale restaurants, popular breweries, and more, all with amazing views of the Portage Waterway and picturesque Portage Canal Lift Bridge.
Houghton is surprisingly bikeable and walkable, as long as you don’t mind a few hills. Almost everything in the town’s borders is within 10 minutes of each other, and the waterfront parks and trails can make any commute from your apartment scenic.
Houghton is a bit of a college town. Michigan Technological University’s campus calls the town home, but there’s a number of other schools in the area for all grades, making this a fantastic locale for families and college students alike. M-26 is pretty much the only main road that will carry you off the peninsula, but from there it’s easy to connect to the rest of the Great Lakes area.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
