El Paso is located in far west Texas, just across the U.S.-Mexico border from Juarez. Together, both cities make up a large metropolitan area divided by the Rio Grande, which separates both cities and countries. New Mexico is located within a few miles of the northern border of El Paso, with Las Cruces approximately 45 minutes north of the city of El Paso. All three cities form an international metropolitan area, with over 2.5 million people living in all three cities. El Paso’s population was 674,433 as of the U.S. Census report of July, 2013.
