Property Ratings at 104 Chestnut St
Please don't read the other review. None of it was true. I have rented from the Matthew Bros in the past. We are getting ready to rent from them again. I wish we never moved. There awesome people. Yes they live and have a life like we all do. But with repairs they are always there the same day or the next day for a repair. If it's out of there hands they will send someone to fix the issue. As for there tenants and the neighborhood. They do a back ground check. So the neighborhood is safe and very quite. I never had a bug problem and it's a cute 2 bedroom/1bath apt. They always call before coming into your residence. There really nice people.
The land management here is atrocious and will blatantly lie to your face. After thoroughly cleaning everything and spackling nail holes and doing everything possible to make sure the apartment was spotless and in great condition, we were told in a walkthrough by the property management that everything looked great and we should expect our deposit back in short order. After waiting nearly a month for the deposit I called up and was told that it just wasn't good enough and we weren't getting a deposit back. After a long argument and the fact that we have pictures/video they conceded to possibly give us a small portion of our deposit back, but I am still waiting to see that. That, and any problems you have with an apartment will never get fixed. We constantly had to butt-heads with the landlord and management in order to get issues resolved. The only things that would get fixed were absolute emergencies (like when our water-heater eroded a hole through itself and flooded the entire kitchen . . . they only cared because their apartment was actually getting damaged by the outstanding issue, but it still took several days). If there are any severe issues with other residents (which we had more often then we'd like) make sure you call the cops first, because the property management will claim to "handle it" but in reality do nothing. On top of it, the maintenance was terrible, one example comes as -after 6 months of nagging- the property management finally sent out a contractor to repair some major damage (that existed since our move-in) because the carpet was just fraying away and too threadbare (which resulted in carpet tacks sticking up and stabbing our feet). The contractor directly told US and THEM that the carpet was far too old and all of it needed to be replaced. The patches he did he said would barely last 3 months (we stretched it out and made them last nearly 9 with extra care), however not only would the landlord NOT replace the carpet for us, come to find out they aren't even going to replace the carpet for the next residents. If you can, avoid these apartments like the plague. Not only do they let in some terrible residents, but they will not be on your side to handle any problems you have with the property.
