As its name implies, South Akron is a small neighborhood about two miles south of Downtown Akron. This charming neighborhood is more affordable compared to other neighborhoods and most rentals in this area are single-family houses. Although residents venture outside of the neighborhood for entertainment, South Akron is home to several locally owned businesses, especially bars and restaurants. These mom-and-pop shops bring the community together, serving up several cuisines from across the globe ranging from seafood to soul food to hibachi. Down-to-earth bars like Zulus and Main Street Saloon liven up the area in the evenings. Conveniently, South Akron is near some of the city’s biggest attractions. The neighborhood is convenient to Firestone Stadium (home of the Akron Racers), the University of Akron, and the Akron Zoo.
