Originally called Nutfield when it was first settled in 1719, Windham separated from its original settlement, which included Londonderry and Derry, around 1742. Today, it is a charming suburban community located about 34 miles northwest of Downtown Boston, Massachusetts and about 15 miles southeast of Manchester. Windham is ideally located for students and shoppers, as well. The University of Massachusetts-Lowell is directly south of Windham, and Pheasant Lane Mall is to the southwest. The Mall of New Hampshire is in nearby Manchester.
Windham is a terrific option for a rental if you want a picturesque community with plenty of options for outdoor activities. Nearby Canobie Lake is home to the lakeside Canobie Lake Park, an amusement park dating back to 1902 and including roller coasters, water rides, and more. Foster’s Pond Natural Area provides a more natural experience, with a walking path around the pond.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
