What is Rental Alert?
Rental Alert is a free service from Apartments.com that will notify you via email when new rental listings matching your search criteria appear in our rental database.
How do I sign up for Rental Alert?
After conducting a rental search on Apartments.com, you have the opportunity to sign up for the Rental Alert service. There are links on your search result page that will take you to the Rental Alert sign-up form. Once the form is completed and processed, you will begin receiving a Rental Alert notification whenever new rental listings matching your search criteria appear in our rental database.
How often will I receive Rental Alert emails?
Rental Alert email notifications are sent out once a day. The email notification will have a link embedded in it that will take you to a web page displaying all of the new rental listings matching your search criteria that appeared in our rental database for that day.
How do you determine when to send me a Rental Alert email notifying me of new rental listings on Apartments.com?
Every evening we take a look at all of the new rental listings that have gone into our rental databases. These new listings include both new premium Visual Listings and the classified listings that Apartments.com received from more than 150 newspaper affiliates. We then compare all of the new rental listings with your Rental Alert subscription. If any of the new rental listings match the search criteria of your subscription, then we send you Rental Alert email notification.
How long will I receive Rental Alert emails?
When you sign up for your Rental Alert subscription, you have the option to select subscription lengths of 30, 60, 90, or 120 days. Of course, you can always extend your subscription length by using the Rental Alert Subscription page on Apartments.com.
Can I have more than one Rental Alert subscription?
You can have as many subscriptions as you need, all tied to the same email address too. The top of every Rental Alert email notification you receive states the search criteria being used for that particular subscription. It a quick and easy way to distinguish the different subscriptions.
How do I renew my subscription?
You can renew your Rental Alert subscription by visiting the Rental Alert Management page on Apartments.com. There you will be able to renew your subscription for 30, 60, 90, or 120 days, and choose to receive your Rental Alert emails either in Plain Text or HTML format.

I need to change the search criteria in my Rental Alert subscription. How can I do this?
The quickest and easiest way to do this is to first cancel your current subscription by using the Rental Alert Management page. Then conduct a new search on Apartments.com using the new search criteria you are interested in. When you see you new results, sign up for Rental Alert again. You will now have a new subscription with new search criteria.
I signed up for a Rental Alert subscription, but I'm not receiving any emails. Why?
Rental Alert will only send you an email notification if there are new listings in our rental database that matches your search criteria. If there are no new listing that match, then Rental Alert does not send you an email. If you go more than a few days without any email notifications, then you might want to review the search criteria for your Rental Alert subscription. Search criteria that are too specific or impractical for a certain market (i.e. $800 2-bedroom apartments in Manhattan) may result in no matches. You should try modifying your search criteria (see, "I need to change the search criteria in my Rental Alert subscription. How can I do this?")
I received a Rental Alert email and when I clicked on the link to see the new listings, Apartments.com doesn't have any new listings to display?
Because of the timeliness of rental listings, we can only guarantee that the information sent in a Rental Alert email notification will be valid for 6 to 8 hours after the email is sent to you. If you try to access the web page URL of new listings provided in the Rental Alert email after that time frame, its possible that those new listings may have already been deleted from our databases.
I can't read my Rental Alert emails. It looks like a bunch of computer code.
If all you see are lines and lines of what appears to be computer code, then you are receiving the HTML format emails and your email application cannot read HTML format emails. You need to go to the Rental Alert Management page and change your notification method to Plain Text. (See, "I'm receiving HTML format email notifications from Rental Alert, and would like to receive Plain Text format emails instead.")
I'm receiving HTML format email notifications from Rental Alert, and would like to receive Plain Text format emails instead.
If you are receiving HTML format email notifications and would like to switch to receiving Plain Text format emails instead, visit the Rental Alert Management page. There you will be able to change your notification method. The Rental Alert Management page will also allow you to renew your subscription.
