The Bon Villa was originally built in 1928 as a premier residence hotel in downtown Oak Park. As the decades went by and residence hotels were no longer the norm, the building converted to rental apartments. The property was sold to new owners in April 2007 and is now managed by GLA Property Management. The Bon Villa, located in the Ridgeland-Oak Park Historic District, has just completed a full federal and state historical restoration. Renovations include a new heating system, roof, electrical and plumbing services, windows, tuckpointing, and landscaping. Every one of the 93 kitchenette, studio, and 1-bedroom apartments have been completely remodeled with new appliances, lighting, flooring, and bath fixtures. The Bon Villa also has remodeled hallways, lobby area, 2 restored vintage elevators plus a freight elevator, and laundry rooms on each floor. GLA’s office is now located on the first floor. Rents at The Bon Villa include heat, cooking gas, water, and garbage. A limited number of storage units are available for rent on each floor. There is a full-time on-site manager Monday through Friday, plus an on-call Resident Engineer. Completely restored, but retaining the gorgeous architectural elements of an era gone by, The Bon Villa is once again the premier place to rent and live in Oak Park, just as it was in 1928.
