We have had a very mixed experience with the complex since moving in last fall, but lately things have only gotten worse. When we first moved in we were on the first floor. The sound from the flooring/ceiling above is incredibly loud. After a couple months we couldn't take the noise any more and moved to a second floor apartment. Since we moved in we have had several maintenance issues. Our bedroom door wouldn't close, the closet door would fall off the track, the heating cover falls off, and the blinds fall when it gets windy. In our first floor apartment there was a leak in the bathroom. When the tenant above of us would shower her dirty shower water would run into the walls in our bathroom and create large bubble in the paint that would leak...Really gross. The maintenance done on the apartment feels cheap and rushed. Most recently we have been struggling with parking. Since spring hit the parking lots will fill up. If you park anywhere besides a designated parking spot you will get towed, even if there is not a single spot available in the lot. Recently, we found out that instead of a key for our apartment door, we were given a master key to the entire complex. We only found this out after a friend of mine accidentally unlocked the door to our neighbor's apartment. This issue really makes me question the security of the building and the capability of the staff. The one positive thing I have to say is about the building manager. She is very responsive and willing to help.
Good place to live
Lived here for a 6 month lease, and I'm gonna be very candid on this review. Only problems I see is there's no gym, pool, or balcony... Other than that, place isn't bad. I've heard many complaints from other residents, but I don't see any... Floor noise is about the only issue but if you live on the top floor it doesn't matter. Managment is great, Brooke, the property manager is willing to work and professional. Soderberg apartments is great, and is willing to work with you.
We're renewing our lease!
My husband and I have enjoyed our time at Second Street Station thus far. We get compliments on how nice the apartments are each time a friend or family member sees it for the first time. The kitchen and floors are awesome. We're on the second floor and so noise hasn't been much of an issue. But there are train tracks near by and you will hear the trains! Our biggest complaint is lack of central heating and air, but that's common for apartment complexes. Working with management has been a pleasant experience each time we've been in contact. Also, our maintenance requests are addressed in a very timely manner. This has been a good first home for us together.
Second Street Station
I lived at second street for one year, overall had a good experience. Yes it's true the parking situation is not the best, but across the street there is a basketball academy that I would have friends park at if they were staying over night, and it wasn't an issue. The walls are very thin, but my neighbors were respectful and it wasn't often that I was bothered. It's defiantly worth the extra money to live on the top floor, it's much quieter. The unit itself was nice and newly remodeled, great coin free laundry facilities. The nice part is the building is also completely smoke free now. The location is also nice, close to uptown and pretty much everything you need. The management staff was always friendly and cared about me as a tenant. Overall I enjoyed my stay at second street station.
Second Street Station - Hopkins, MN
I've lived at Second Street Station for four months. It's been years since I lived in an apartment. These apartments have an updated appearance and are very clean. I especially like the security access and that packages can be left at the office if I'm not available. I always get a parking spot near my building based on the campus layout. They also have new, clean and secure storage areas available to rent. I find these apartments very comfortable for the right price in this area.
Second Street Station has been home to my girlfriend and I for three years now. We keep re-signing that lease for several reasons. The microwave, dishwasher, and sink have been updated. We love the hardwood floors. Biking is important to me and we're on the hub of 3 main trail lines. I like to think that I can go anywhere in the metro in 15 minutes. More importantly it's the people here. Neighbors are kind and quiet (for the most part) and our management team has been very good to us. The maintenance men (Adam and Sam) have especially impressed me. They are prompt and kind; made me feel respected when walking me through what was fixed, they made me feel comfortable. And it smells good in the shared spaces. We have been happy with our time here at Second Street Station.
Nice Place for 1
I've lived here for about 2 years and moving out due to getting married, so needing a bigger space. I live on the 2nd floor and rarely hear my neighbors inside their apts, just occasional people walking in the hallways. I transitioned to a telecommuter position after I moved in and was amazed at how quiet it is during the day! For this area, the new SS kitchen appliances, large windows and wood flooring make it stand out. My biggest issue has been parking as both my fiance and I have both been towed from this lot. The new property manager now is MUCH better about communicating and reminding via email when work will be done in the lots, so hopefully this will help reduce headaches like this for others. Overall a nice, safe place that's priced evenly with neighboring buildings.
Second Street Station
I've lived at Second Street for just over a year now and have had a positive experience so far. The buildings are clean, maintenance is speedy, and management seems great. I have never had a problem with parking. All neighbors are very quiet, and the building feels safe. The colors in the hallway are not my favorite, and the floors show everything.
There are better options! Don't settle for this place.
I wish I would have looked at more reviews when my husband and I chose this apartment complex. If we were paying $635 a month, this is the apartment we would expect to have. I recently wrote an email to the apartment manager and included a video where you can hear just how LOUD the creaky floorboards are upstairs. I told her how often we are woken up in the middle of the night or can't fall asleep because of the sound. (You honestly wouldn't believe how loud it is. It isn't even the sound of footsteps- it's the sound of creaking floors!) She apologized, but said that the building wasnt soundproofed when it was built, so there's nothing that can be done. (That would have been nice to be informed of PRIOR to paying an $835 deposit and agreeing to pay $835 for rent every month.) As you can tell from other reviews, the parking situation is terrible. Don't expect to have last minute guests over in the evening. Everyone we know in this building has been towed once. ($200 fee and you have to go pick your vehicle up all the way over by Minnehaha Falls.) The renovations were a total hack job (demand to see the apartment you will be moving into before signing a lease- NOT the model unit). The walls have dripped paint, major imperfections that were just painted over, and the closets are SO cheaply made. The shelves are made of pressboard and look like something you'd find for free on the street curb. This apartment complex is livable. Don't get me wrong. BUT it's not worth the price. Don't settle for paying a couple hundred extra dollars and let them tell you it's because of "location". The area is safe, but it is mostly run down and surrounded by abandoned buildings/ fast food restaurants. Soderberg owns another location in Brooklyn Center that is $50 cheaper, is closer to the city, has nicer units, and has a pool/ workout center/ tennis courts. I wish we would have known about that property before choosing this one. Don't do it. You deserve a better home for the price you'll be paying.
I have lived here for a year and I love it so far! The usual apartment woes are to be expected really- hearing neighbors (less of a problem if you get an upstairs unit) and the parking situation (the price to pay for exclusive parking and all it takes is being prepared when having friends over- and there is always parking at Pizza Luce or Knollwood if you really don't want to deal with the permit situation for friends). Cats are allowed and there is no monthly payment which is great! And as of September 1st 2015 its all smoke free! Maintenance is super responsive and office people are always friendly. I face the courtyard and I'm assuming that is better than facing the ugly surrounding apartment buildings or the parking lot. Neighbors are ninjas and I hardly ever see or hear them! With all the new appliances, great floors and design, being close to the highways, definitely worth it!
I have lived here for almost a year, and they installed new dishwashers and microwaves, and also love the wood floors and 3 huge closets for clothes and storage. Management is great, and have always been prompt in fixing any problems I have. I have a cat and theret is no pet rent which is nice, but there was a deposit for her. Never an issue with parking or safety of the area. Decent place for the price!
Not the best but works for now!
1. Location/Neighborhood - Honestly it is embarrassing to have friends come over sometimes because these apartments are located in an area that is slightly shady. Lots of sketchy other apartment buildings around and strange people lurking in the streets a few blocks over. However, that being said, I have had no safety concerns while living here. The apartments are conveniently located to running trails/cub/target etc. Granted I wouldn't use the trails around here after dark :/ 2. Overall Value -They are the nicest apartments around for the least $$$ - but you get what you pay for! Quick hack job renovation - literally crooked cupboard doors, paint over mold, slopped together. No dishwasher, no garbage disposal. Heat is free :) 3. Office Staff - Average. Parking situation isn't the greatest. You must obtain a "guest pass" for friends staying after 11pm and you have to get one from the office lady. She leaves early quite often and you don't get the pass you called for. If you don't call early on a Friday don't count on having any surprise guests over Saturday night! Tow city! 4. I think the maintenance is fine. They have responded to every request I have made in a timely manner. 5. Quality of Amenities...What amenities? The chairs around a mound of plants? Sure. No pool, no gym, no common room to rent out. Laundry rooms are alright...up on the second floor and you pay with a laundry card you have to go to the main office to load. 6. Noise - Woof. I could literally hear my neighbors breathing! And doing other things... Something else worth mentioning...People are allowed to smoke in their apartments and the smoke comes pouring through to your apartment no matter how far away from them you live. It's completely gross.
Quiet and safe
I have lived at second street for three years and have been totally satisfied with the management and maintenance staff! I would recommend this property indeed!
DO NOT LIVE HERE! UNHELPFUL STAFF, POORLY RENOVATED, BAD PARKING!
We recently moved into this location and have had a terrible experience. We will not be renewing our lease and wish we would have found something else, but we were in a hurry. The maintenance staff does not resolve issues when they are reported and left the apartment dirty for us to clean up when we moved in (hair in the bathtub, food residue underneath the sink, dust everywhere, paint splatter on the windows and lights). The renovations are poorly done (they literally just paint over everything to make it look clean and bright, even the fuse box and radiator covers). We have ALREADY been towed out of the parking lot, even though we had a visitor pass IN THE WINDOW. The office staff could not bother to resolve the issue even when we took up the issue with the owner, and we ended up having to pay for it (200 dollars!). This is a lot of money for a resident especially during the holidays, and nothing for the company, but since the office manager wrote the right MAKE but the wrong MODEL down of the vehicle on the guest parking pass and would not admit any fault in the matter, we had to eat the tow fee. The noise level is awful, the walls are paper thin- they never bothered to sound-proof. The stress of fearing being towed every night, terrible and unresponsive office staff and maintenance, hearing our neighbors through the walls, and having to clean up after these people, are more than enough to SAY NO to living here and probably OTHER Sodeberg properties.
There are much better options
I wouldn't recommend living here. I lived in these apartments for about a year and I was pretty disastisfied with several occurences: 1. Parking is terrible. Management does not care about your social life, and contract their 'parking services' out to the the trashiest towing company. If you have friends that visit you often, they WILL get towed. 2. I communicated to my landlord that I would be leaving my apartment about 2 months early because of work and that I would be paying out my lease. They charged me an extra month's rent because I told them I wouldn't be leaving when my lease was up. Why do I need to tell you I am leaving when my lease is up? What is the point of having a lease? 3.Walls are very thin and you hear EVERYTHING. 4. Judging by their mannerisms, how they do business, how they treat residents, I don't think you should invest.
I would recommend to anyone!
I have enjoyed my stay at Second Street Station. I have lived here for over three years but since I am getting married it is time for more space. The apartments are incredibly well appointed for the area, the buildings are kept very clean, neighbors are quiet, management is awesome and in my opinion it is very safe and secure. Management has been quick to deal with any tenants who are causing problems. I will miss it greatly!
Second Street Apartments
Only offers 1 bedrooms, I have lived here for 3 years. No problems, first floor, good neighbors, so much is with in a mile. I would recommend Second Street Station.
Very good for apartments for one person
I've lived here for two years and it's been very positive. I love the appliances and new floors. The bedroom is plenty big for a single resident, and there are three different closets that can easily function as storage space. The office staff has always been responsive and will work with you as long as you aren't abrasive right off the bat. My car got towed one night from a spot that I had seen other tenants park in, and I explained the situation and got my next month's rent lowered to compensate for it. A lot of places wouldn't do that from what I've seen in Minneapolis. A similar apartment in Uptown would easily cost $1000-$1200 so this is really a great deal in my opinion. It doesn't offer the same things as downtown or Uptown, but there's decent walking/running/biking trails around as well. Sometimes I can hear other tenants, but it's only when they are blasting music or TV. The bathroom is decent, but the vanity is pretty small. You can only get cable through Comcast so heads up on that. Overall I give the place a 4/5.
