I rent at the Residences at City Center (RCC). I've had nothing but a positive experience here. Location is convenient (dining and shopping within walking distance, library within walking distance), amenities are good (underground heated parking, storage unit, 24 hour gym), and grounds well kept. Inside the unit is VERY nice and spacious. I did a walk through before moving in, there were a few things that needed to be detailed (paint touch-up and light bulb out) they were done by my move in date. If there is one thing I would change about my unit is the shower. The shower structure could be better (it squeaks). I've read some of the other reviews and a common concern is noise. You can hear people walking though the halls very easily. However, I have yet to hear anyone in an adjacent unit. I rent a unit on the top floor, so I cannot comment on upstairs tenant noise levels. In all noise has never been an issue for me. The property does allow pets. I have a puppy. My puppy made a lot of noise while I was at work. My neighbor wrote me a note directly about the issue and I took care of it. In my experience most of the people I live around are very polite and some even beyond polite (maybe I just got lucky with some great neighbors). The staff here is GREAT. Extremely nice, caring, helpful, and attentive. A quick example: routine preventative maintenance on equipment in my unit needed to be done. Staff went in and noticed my heat was working hard to maintain the set temperature. This was brought to my attention and management said they'd work to get my apartment properly heated (their concern being my energy bill). By the following week, heat in the apartment was outstanding. Why do I use this as an example? Because I did not complain about it, it was something they noticed and worked to fix on their own, it was done in a timely manner, and they were thoughtful enough to think about my costs. Still, mind you, I'm a renter-not an owner.
I live at this property currently and overall I am happy. However, the prior reviewer's comments about noise are right except that I do not hear people below me. Above me, however....just wow. I think the brother building the place forgot two key things: insulation between the floors and decent plumbing. I hear almost every footstep to the point of tracking overhead movement. Squeaks and creeks at every step. And my toilet backs up 3x a week - no lie - in normal use. I have to flush 2x-3x every time plus have a plunger on standby. Ridiculous. And the bathtub is the cheapest piece I have every seen. It is not installed on a fixed base so it squeaks 10x worse than a door in a 100 year old house. I feel bad for my downstairs neighbor. I know when the upstairs unit is showing. I thought I would be a lot happier for $1150 a month.
If you are planning on renting a unit, be aware the owners of other units come first. Complaints of noise go unheard, as do other requests, again, unless you are an owner of a unit. The office ladies do entertain you, but do not do a thing to correct an issue you bring to their attention. Every step, every cabinet door, every toilet seat from the neighbor above AND below you is heard. If you are not an owner, you are evicted because of noise; however, if an owner is abnoxious, they are exempt. This neighborhood is very haughty in that one cannot even have patio furniture out if it does not suit the tastes of the owners of the units. They, again, may have whatever they please out on their patios. The neighbors encountered in the hallways are not kind and only have a word for you when you are in their way in some manner. I have lived in a communities very similiar to this and I have never had these problems before. The Residences at City Center has made a horrible impression on me becasue of their misrepresentation online and in person. I was glad to move out and into a different community in the New Berlin area.
