Apartments.com Expands Leading Position in Rental Category

Apartment Rental Site Continues to Reach More Renters Than Any Other Site

CHICAGOAugust 28, 2000— Apartments.com (www.apartments.com), the Internet's leading national online apartment guide and a featured channel in the HomeScape.com (www.homescape.com) portfolio of real estate sites, has maintained its number one position in the residential rental real estate category for the second month in a row, according to July Media Metrix reports.

Media Metrix' most recent report shows that Apartments.com continues to generate the highest number of unique visitors, page views and competitive reach in the category. Apartments.com attracted more than 952,000 unique visitors in July, catapulting ahead of its nearest competitor by more than 21 percent and exceeding its June traffic figures by more than 200,000 visitors. The report shows that Apartments.com is also the "stickiest" site in the category with each visitor viewing an average of 13.2 pages, surpassing its nearest competitor by 7.5 pages each visit. The site's competitive reach, a figure that demonstrates how much of the overall Internet population has visited the site, grew to 1.2 percent placing it in the category's leading position.

"Our visitors recognize that Apartments.com is the most convenient and useful apartment rental site on the Web, and the word is spreading," said Matt Wise, vice president and general manager of HomeScape.com, which operates Apartments.com. "Apartments.com's continual growth in traffic and page views verifies that our advertisers are reaching the largest number of consumers of any apartment rental site on the Internet."

Apartments.com's unique visitors have consistently been increasing since November of last year until overtaking its competitors in June. Apartments.com expects this growth to continue due in part to the promotional power of its affiliate network of more than 130 newspapers and its new positioning within the HomeScape.com portfolio of sites, where consumers have access to a comprehensive destination for real estate-related information and tools. HomeScape.com is one of the largest, most-trafficked residential real estate sites on the Internet.

Apartments.com's sister site, NewHomeNetwork.com (www.newhomenetwork.com), also maintained its number one position in traffic, according to the July Media Metrix report.
