it's ok but needs work
The appliances need to be updayed, and it would be more worth the money if it had a washer and dryer in unit. Would also hav been better with bigger master bedroom.
Worst apartment at worst price in Waltham
This apartment complex is unbelievably overpriced: for the area you could find an apartment of the same price that will be newer, cleaner, have better parking, and will have better service. The management here is also unbelievably unhelpful. Their property manager, Tammy, was very rude and dismissive when I contacted her about a pressing issue. This apathetic attitude seems to pervade the staffing of this complex; they prefer to ignore or evade issues and concerns rather than work with tenants to help them. I have never been so unhappy with either management of an apartment, or an apartment itself, in either Waltham, or in any apartment complex in general. Not only this, but the walls are paper thin, and I have had sleep problems due to noisy neighbors (one whom had a developmental issue so this was not the fault of the other tenants insofar as the cheap materials used in the apartment itself.
Very Poor Quality
WARNING TO INTERNATIONAL TENANTS: You inherently unable to receive your security deposit, which for internationals is a full month, because they will only mail it within country. If you are leaving soon after you will not be here to receive your deposit, and trying to get it sent abroad takes jumping through a dozen hoops. There has been a fatal shooting in this subdivision, a drive-by, and 911's just about daily. So make sure to lock your rickety apartment door. Do not have anything important mailed to you that cannot fit in a small metal mail box or it may be stolen. The buildings are not in nearly as good of shape as pictured here. The pictures posted of the insides of the buildings and room are very inaccurate. Expect old appliances, poor heating, very poor design (must be at least 20 years out of style, my floor is a laminate green), counters and cabinets of the lowest quality, and expect only 3/5 showers to be hot. Do not expect to get great rest. The floors and walls are paper thin, if your neighbor is not a mouse you will hear them. The thin walls and poor HVAC make temperature control nearly impossible within your apartment. The blinds are absolute garbage, so the sun will be entering your room between 6-8 depending on the season. But do not worry that will not be the only thing bothering you. The company Gardencrest hires for landscape will be present at 7 AM until 11 AM outside of the winter, but fret not because the plows and garbage trucks create plenty of noise for the winter season. Finally the management could not care less about you. Any non-critical work order will take months to happen. They will use every trick in the book to try and scrounge out a dime or two from you.
Not a very good living experience
I am a current resident and have lived here for a long time and I am desperately trying to leave. The place used to be well kept and nice and now it is horrible. The walls in the units are paper thin and you can hear everything from your neighbors. Granted it has always been like this but I currently have a very loud dog next door and very loud neighbors that stomp up and down the stairs yelling at the top of their lungs and slam the doors so hard that pictures have fallen off my walls and broken. I have complained to management about the noise through email and leaving a message on their answering machine( since they never answer the phone), nothing has been done and I have had to resort to getting the police involved. Maintenance in Gardencrest is nearly non existent. It took four days to get our tub fixed because it was backed up. We called about our hot water one time the guy came said he would be right back and he has never returned. A couple hour later the water came back on.Our refrigerator broke and they gave us a smaller one, our stove broke and they gave us a dented and used one. My window shades are now broken and we were told we cant have replacements so we are out of luck. I work very early in the morning and it is still dark when I leave the house. None of the lights work around the property or our parking lot. Rats are now all over the parking lots because of the dumpsters. Parking is another awful issue that my family has to deal with. There are just not enough spots for everyone. It wouldn't be so bad if the community had more lights and the grounds were kept up but they are not and it is not a safe place to walk around. The sidewalks are uneven and a tripping hazard and if there is snow and ice forget about it. The whole community is unsafe. The snow removal is horrendous. We are usually one of the worst streets in Waltham because they wait forever to plow. They do not do the back of the buildings or the parking lots at all anymore and barely do the front sidewalks. So good luck if you cant find a parking spot close to your house and now you have to walk on the icy sidewalks or street in the dark.
I have been living in the Gardencrest for 2 years. I like the community despite some noise, people smoking on their balconies and occasional cops' cars visits in my building. I wanted to transfer to a bigger unit and I agreed to pay the transfer fee (although it is weird because I am bringing in more revenue by renting a bigger place). Today I talked to one of the reps (Sarah, but I am not sure if that was her name). We are interested in 2bdr apartment. We looked at a model apartment, bigger than we wanted (another marketing trick, she mentioned that according to the Company's policy she can show only bigger units??). We were surprised that the prices increased since Wednesday ( 150$ per unit), that's when I called for the first time to check the availability. As any customers, we had a lot of questions, we came back 3 times (2nd time we were about to make a deal, but then she casually mentioned that the units were on the ground floor, which went against our initial request) hoping to get some answers, to look at the floor plans and pictures, but on the 3rd time we came across a very unfriendly tone: the consultant was annoyed to see us again, said that she already told us everything in the afternoon (although we asked about more expensive options). We left and unanimously exclaimed: wow, that was rude. I understand that it is Saturday and the end of a working day, she is fed up with stupid questions but we didn't come there to complain, we came because we wanted better living conditions in the same community. I am not trying to teach Gardencrest reps a better customer experience lesson (although some training is definitely needed), but according to your pledge Home Properties prides itself on courteous, professional employees. I guess not that courteous and professional. Bad customer service, unfriendly tone, poor problem-solving skills (not listening to customers needs and trying to push a more expensive unit).
