    • Top Neighborhoods in Casper, WY

Casper, the second most populous city in the state of Wyoming, is located where the Rocky Mountains and the prairies of the Upper Midwest meet. With a population of 55,316 in the 2010 census, Casper is equidistant between five major cities:

      • Boise, Idaho
      • Denver, Colorado
      • Omaha, Nebraska
      • Rapid City, South Dakota
      • Salt Lake City, Utah

The earliest homes in the city were built at the turn of the 20th century. The housing boom in Casper, nicknamed “The Oil City,” was directly related to the development of the Salt Creek Oil Field.

Casper’s top neighborhood is the 22 square blocks comprising The South Wolcott Historic District. The homes were built in the early 1900s for the oil field workers. These weren't temporary-type of wooden homes, as you might see in some California ghost towns. These were stately brick homes containing factory-made architectural elements such as chandeliers, mantels and moldings shipped to Casper by train.
