Finding an Apartment for Rent in Seattle, WA

Seattle is a study in contrasts; yes, it rains a lot, but it's also full of bright spots. You'll be struck by the beauty of its surroundings, with the Olympic mountains and Puget Sound to the west, the Cascade mountains to the east, and regal, snow-covered Mount Rainier presiding from the south. However, Seattle itself has all the trappings of a cosmopolitan city. Although the Space Needle might appear smaller than you expected, it's an icon of the city's downtown landscape.

As the Pacific Northwest's largest city, Seattle has an aura of optimism, eco-friendliness and enterprise. Ferry boats bring both cars and passengers across Seattle's multitude of waterways. With a vibrant arts and culture scene, great restaurants, innovative businesses, and professional and collegiate sports teams, there's plenty to see and do in Seattle. There are also a multitude of hip, eclectic neighborhoods all around town that you can call your home base.

    Top Neighborhoods in Seattle, WA

There are plenty of green spaces in Seattle, as well as hiking and skiing areas accessible just outside of the city. Skyscrapers like Columbia tower and the iconic Starbucks and Amazon headquarters buildings grace the skyline. The Queen Anne neighborhood offers the best of big city living in Seattle, with gorgeous homes and apartments, great food, a wealth of theaters and a thriving farmer's market. "Queen Anne Hill" offers breathtaking views of the city.

The Belltown neighborhood epitomizes downtown living in Seattle. If you thrive on an urban vibe, then Belltown just might be for you. It is considered one of Seattle’s hippest neighborhoods and is home to a mixture of condos, apartments, music clubs, cafes, bars, trendy restaurants, pool halls, nightclubs and specialty stores.

If you're not into the bustling downtown energy, take the Alaskan Way viaduct over the West Seattle Bridge into West Seattle. The Alki neighborhood offers gorgeous vistas of Puget Sound, the downtown skyline and Olympic mountains. West Seattle is a great place to call home, with easy access to Lincoln Park and the Alki beach path. If you head north instead from downtown Seattle up Elliott Avenue to 15th St., you'll soon encounter two of Seattle's trendiest neighborhoods, Ballard and Fremont. Here you'll find hipster families, lots of shops, bars, restaurants, and some of Seattle's best apartment living.

The University District (U-District), Wallingford, South Lake Union and Capitol Hill are bustling, energized (albeit somewhat congested) neighborhoods in the heart of Seattle. Some of Seattle's more affordable but pleasant neighborhoods include Shoreline to the north, Burien and White Center to the south/southwest, and Georgetown just south of downtown. If the suburbs are more your style, there's the Bellevue and Kirkland neighborhoods east of Seattle just on the other side of Lake Washington.

    Cultural Attractions in Seattle, WA

The Pioneer Square area downtown and the famous Pike Place Market are must-sees in Seattle; each is rich with the history of the area. Browse a variety of booths and displays at Pike Place Market and watch workers toss those giant Alaskan salmon; buy fresh produce or a colorful flower bouquet. Love music? With over 80 live music clubs and 15 symphony orchestras, Seattle has the highest club and music event attendance per capita in the U.S. The Bumbershoot music festival, held over Labor Day weekend, is one of the world's largest. The Seattle International Film Festival showcases filmmakers from around the world. Seattle is home to 29 professional theaters, seven theaters schools and 56 "fringe" theater companies. Love books? East of the waterfront, the Elliott Bay Book Co. is a Seattle institution featuring both new and used titles. Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park is another awesome Seattle-area bookstore and writer's hangout.

    Dining in Seattle, WA

There's definitely no shortage of great coffee and exquisite cuisine in the greater Seattle area. You can grab coffee at Peet's or the original Starbucks location near Pike Place Market, but there are many other excellent coffee chains to choose from: Tully'sCafe LadroDiva Espresso as well as lots of independent cafes. If you're down at Pike Place Market early enough, have breakfast at the Athenian Inn or Lowell's. For breakfast and lunch, just about every type of cuisine is represented in Seattle, from Brazilian steak houses to excellent Thai, your pick of Mexican food and an abundance of Indian restaurants (try a lunch buffet.) Love Asian food and culture? Visit International District downtown for a satisfying dim sum experience. You can sample Ethiopian fare as well as Middle Eastern, Greek, Russian and even Hawaiian, but you should have lunch in the Space Needle at least once (or whenever you have first-time visitors from out of town.) Salty's restaurant on Alki offers excellent seafood along with great Puget Sound views, as do Ray's and Anthony's in Ballard.

    Sports in Seattle, WA

Seattle has plenty to see and do for the sports lover all year round, with professional teams represented in both baseball and football; the Seattle Mariners are consistently competitive in their league, and what's not to love about the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks? The Seattle Sounders thrill soccer fans, and the Seattle Storm is beloved by women's basketball fans across the state. The locals also love their college teams - you can root for the U of WA Huskies as they take on the WA State Cougars.
