Rated 1 out of 5?by UVA Student DO NOT LIVE HERE
They conduct room sweeps every 60 days or so, yet they wouldn't open the door for my roommate when she locked her keys inside her room, because it was against their privacy policy. So, they allow perfect strangers to come into our rooms whenever they get around to checking our rooms, yet won't open doors for the owner of the room. Let me clarify this by saying the owner of the room could not get home by 7 (when the office closes) and had her roommate (me) call the office to let them know that she authorizes her room door being opened (since she doesn't speak English very well). Now, I've had this done before, but the girl that helped me on the phone (I say girl, because she was very unprofessional in terms of service and behavior), said that it cannot be done. When I asked why, since they DID allow it when I asked them to before, she said that they just can't. Bull.
Maintenance guys are pretty friendly, but they don't really listen to you asking them to take off their shoes when they enter... so they track mud/dirt into your room and that's annoying.
Parking is the only thing that's good around here. ABUNDANT parking. But that just goes to show you how vacant this place must be.
My roommate has an adjoining wall to another suite, and they are loud til about 3 am in the morning and are very hostile. I can hear my other roommate, whom I share a wall with, brushing her teeth from my room without even trying. So the walls are very thin. There are some issues with noise outside the apartment as well, with drunks getting loud and whatnot.
The place says they'll charge people who leave trash outside their doors, yet almost every single suite in my apartment seems to do this. It is unsightly and disgusting. And sometimes trash is littered all over the stairs and the ground floor. They clean it up (the apartment, I'm assuming) but it takes a few days.
What else... I was once charged for the garbage disposal breaking. The garbage disposal needed to be 'fixed' every few weeks or so. And I say 'fixed' because it was never truly fixed. They'd leave a note saying they did (they always came when we weren't there) but when I went to turn it on, it wouldn't grind WATER, ok? So, we kept submitting orders, and one day, they sent us some bull about violating the contract. If your garbage disposal actually worked, then we wouldn't have any problems.
I was stupid another to renew my lease, and when I did, they called me and practically kicked me out of the suite I was staying in (everyone else wised up and moved out to other places) because a 4 person group wanted to move in, and mine was the only one available. So, I told them I'd move. What happened was the most unprofessional thing ever. I said I'd move about by Tuesday (since I was out of town) and yet they started removing the carpet out of one room and put new one down, without even telling me. Now that I think about it, I could have done something about that. It violated my lease, did it not? They came into my apartment without 24 hours notice. It wasn't an emergency, and I still lived there. God, I hate this place. Anyway, them doing that is fine, okay, whatever. But leaving carpet fibers, mud, dirt, EVERYWHERE was not acceptable. I called them to complain, and they go "it's not because we want you to move out faster, we just needed to get it done".
This place is repulsive. They say they've changed management in the last few months, or so the GIRL tells me, but this place is just so disgustingly DISGUSTING in terms of service and anything else I can think of, that I will continue to hate this place for as long as I live. The only thing good about this place was that I never saw any cockroaches. But I saw plenty of giant sized spiders and SILVERFISH. They are everywhere.

Rated 1 out of 5?by Student Avoid This Place!
This place seems like a great deal when you are first settling in but it is far from what I expected. It has an issue with bugs, the walls are extremely thin, and neighbors are loud. My apartment was even dirty when I moved in. I complained about the carpet and nothing ever got done about it. Eventually, I decided to find somewhere else to live. I found someone to take over my lease and the office had no idea what they were doing. They lost paperwork, they never called me back, they took forever to process the smallest bits of information and they were the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. I would NEVER want to live here again. If you're looking for an apartment this should be your last resort. Like the other review says, you get what you pay for.

Rated 3 out of 5?by red_dreamer10 You Get What You Pay For
Pro: It is cheap.
Con: You get what you pay for.
The roommate matching is hit or miss; don't be fooled into thinking that everyone here is a student. I had a 40 year old roommate who skipped out on rent/utilities, and a loud, drunk roommate who blasted music/TV all night with her equally loud/drunk friends. When I attempted to transfer apartments, the employees were not helpful. It was like running around in circles until I went over their heads to the manager. The employees that I've had to deal with seem to be at a loss when it comes to what the complex replaces and what the renter would be responsible for replacing.
Maintenance is very prompt usually within 24 hours.
The noise depends on the location in the complex. Some areas are quieter than others. The police department is right across from the complex, so that makes the complex seem a bit safer.
Free parking. Washer/dryer in apartment. Free cable. Free shuttle to UVA.
The apartment also has a problem regarding silverfish.
In the end, I wish I would have looked at other apartment complexes before moving to University Place. If at all possible, continue looking at other apartments. If you do decide to move here, just remember you get what you pay for.

Rated 5 out of 5?by corrizzle I love this place!
The apartments look exactly like the pictures. I was shocked as to how nice they were. They are also very inexpensive for students and they are so close to downtown and the colleges, UVA and PVCC. The staff are also so nice and helpful. They also offer on-site maintenance! It's a 24 hour thing along with some of their amenities.
