Rated 1 out of 5?by C4TLADY DO NOT STAY HERE!
Living at Crossroads has been a TOTAL nightmare from the very beginning. Luckily our lease is up in March.. but I wish it was sooner. Where do I start? We were practically tricked into our lease to begin with, which I signed in October. We were shown the model unit, which was beautiful, and were promised by Roman that our apartment would look just like the model. He said that the only difference is that some of the units have different cabinets but they are just as nice. We were in a hurry to find a place quick and so far this was the best in our price range.. They refused to let us see the unit before signing the lease because of some "minor maintenance" and I stupidly believed their lies and signed the lease.
Roman promised us that all the units had appliances that were 10 YEARS OLD OR NEWER and that he had walked through our unit, that it looked great, etc.. When we went to move in I was horrified. Do not believe their photos on their website (I have uploaded some REAL photos)! The WHOLE APARTMENT was filthy.. covered in dirt, dust, and grime.
We wanted the unit that had the vanity in the closet instead of washer/dryer hookups because we did not have a washer/dryer at the time. Roman assured us that it had the vanity when he did his "walk through".. We moved in and what do you know? We have washer/dryer hookups. We immediately informed them of the mix-up and they told us that we could either move across the property in 2 months or that we could stay here with the hookups and they wouldn't charge us extra for it.. Wow you aren't going to charge us extra for something we didn't want in the first place? GEE THANKS! We obviously stayed because we weren't moving our things up 3 flights of stairs, then down again 2 months later just to move across the property.
Our kitchen was anything but beautiful, completely old and decrepit. The supposed "10 year old" appliances are a joke. All the prongs in the dishwasher are rusted and broken off. There is only one shelf in the fridge that isn't broken. There are burn marks all over our countertops. Our fan blades in the dining room are bent. Our stove was broken for a month before we FINALLY were able to get a maintenance man to come fix it. When I brought up that we had been told the appliances would be newer to one of the girls in the office she simply replied "How would we know how old appliances are and why would we guarantee it?" as if I was lying. You can tell about how old an appliance is just by looking at it and why DID you guarantee it then?
We were told the reason we couldn't see our apartment before moving in was because they were installing a "new" toilet. It obviously isn't new and it hasn't been bolted down correctly so it wobbles and leaks. The caulk wasn't finished in the bathroom, they had only gone halfway up the shower. There was horrible mold under the sink and the wood was warped. This mold and warping was also under the sink in the kitchen. After complaining for a MONTH maintenance finally came and they just sprayed "mold b gone" or something on it and then spray painted over it. Super professional.
I no longer bother telling maintenance about anything because it takes them 1 week or more to finally come out, if they do at all. Not to mention that EVERY SINGLE TIME they have come into my apartment they have left a new huge oil stain on my carpet and grimy fingerprints on the wall. This carpet is supposedly new, but cheap as can be. I have scrubbed at these stains and they will not come out. I have complained multiple times.
When we moved in we were told that they would be doing outside renovations on the apartment building IN MARCH OF 2013. In November we came home to a notice on the door saying that we had 3 days to get everything we needed out of the apartment because we would not have access to it and that we would be staying in a hotel while they renovated the unit for the next 5 days. We had a 3 DAY NOTICE! We called and talked to the office who told us they would be taking off the stairs so whether we liked it or not since we live on the 3rd floor we would have no access to our unit. So since we didn't have a choice I had to take the day off of work and move all of our things to a hotel for a few days. After being at the hotel we were told we would have to check out at 11AM but that we wouldn't have access to our apartment until 5PM. I'm pregnant, I have horrid migraines and morning sickness, and I also have a cat. They expected me to take another day off of work to move all of our things into our car and just sit in the parking lot sick with a cat for 6 hours until they graciously let us back in.. Yeah I don't think so. When I called the office to complain their solution was "Well we can have someone climb up the scaffolding and put your cat inside". ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? After I had my husband go in and fight with them they finally agreed to let us check out late from the hotel so that I wouldn't have to take another day off of work and sit in the parking lot for 6 hours.
After moving back in they continued the renovations for the duration of the month and all of the next month. Like I said, I'm pregnant with horrible migraines. We had LOUD banging on our walls from as early as 7AM and it would last until at least 7PM. There was even a time I came home from work on a Saturday to all of our windows and our glass door gone. We had no warning of this! I just came home to a frigid apartment full of strangers. It is now finally completed after 3 months..
I now dread the beginning of each month because I have to document every single thing in fear of them "losing" my check or not paying the Conservice. Conservice is the water/sewer/trash and Crossroads are oh so kind and pay it as long as you add it onto the rent. So since I have been living here in Oct I have been adding about $30 extra to the $745 and they pay that.. Well at the beginning of January not only did they lose my check, THEY DIDN'T PAY THE CONSERVICE AND JUST ASSUMED I WAS PUTTING ADDING A $30 CREDIT TO NEXT MONTHS RENT. Really???? I had to take in my check copy to prove that I had given it to them after receiving a "pay or vacate" notice on my door and then they tried to charge me a late fee which I refused to pay. I paid them on the 2nd, it is not my fault they are unorganized and lost my check. They finally reversed the late fee and then told me I had a $30 credit on my account, I figured it was because they were trying to make nice with me or something.. until I started receiving all of these late notices from Conservice. I went in and talked to the office and they said that they just assumed I was putting $30 to next month. So after offering to pay the Conservice for me and doing so since October, they figured that this month I was probably just putting money towards next month not giving it to them for the Conservice?! They called Conservice and fixed it but I was still dumb founded.
I have been lied to repeatedly by these horrible people. I wish I had gone online and read the reviews before signing this lease. The cars are constantly being broken into, the office is unorganized and rude, and the apartment is nothing like we were told. DO NOT STAY HERE! I would not wish this upon my worst enemy.
