CHICAGO, June 17, 2008 –Unlike other communication devices, mobile phones are the only media that people carry with them wherever they go. Almost 90 percent of the U.S. population (13 and over) own a mobile device.1 Given this increased reliance on mobile technology in day-to-day life, Apartments.com announced today the launch of “Apartments.com Anywhere,” a suite of mobile products that allow property owners and management companies to connect with on-the-go renters through a mobile environment.
“People use the Web differently on their mobile phones,” said Chris Brown, vice president of product development, Apartments.com. "When renters are on the go or in a hurry, instant access to information on a property could be a critical factor in that renter’s decision to make contact with a property manager or landlord. With ‘Apartments.com Anywhere,’ renters can now review community information wherever and whenever it’s most relevant to them."
The "Apartments.com Anywhere" suite of mobile products includes “Text4Info,” “Apartments.com Mobile Web” and “Send2Phone.” With these new mobile solutions, the entire database of more than three million Apartments.com listings are available nationwide to renters anytime and anywhere.
Whether a renter is pounding the pavement or in their car, information on rental property can be easily accessed by text messaging a unique, vanity keyword such as "APTS" or "RENT" to the Apartments.com short code 29999. In return, details on the property are instantly provided through a text message, and interested renters will have the option to “click2call” or view the full property listing using their mobile web browser.
A major benefit for Apartments.com customers is that the text message directs renters to a property-branded listing on the Mobile Web, meaning that only the property’s branding appears, eliminating the need for property owners and managed properties to develop their own dedicated mobile web environment.
Apartments.com Mobile Web
To enhance a renter’s Web browsing experience, the Apartments.com Web site has been optimized for browsing on a mobile device, using Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) technology. Now renters can conduct a fully customizable search of all listings on Apartments.com through a mobile phone. As the only Internet Listing Service (ILS) to offer a mobile optimized Web site, Apartments.com is reaching roughly half of mobile device owners—age 18 to 44—with phones equipped for Mobile Web browsing.2 Today almost 40 million people browse the Mobile Web, which is projected to grow 19 percent annually and reach more than 90 million by 2012.3
Potential renters can now send information about an apartment listing from the Apartments.com Web site to their mobile phones as a text message. Information on specific properties are sent to interested prospects who click the “Send2Phone” link on the “Property Details” page of Apartments.com.
Apartments.com Mobile Web and Send2Phone products are free to all Apartments.com customers. There is a nominal monthly fee to subscribe to the Text4Info product. Currently, all “Apartments.com Anywhere” products are live and in use by thousands of renters across the country.
