Apartments.com Soars Past the Competition into Number One Spot

Apartment Rental Site Reaches More Renters Than Any Other Site

ALEXANDRIA, VAFebruary 24, 2000—Apartments.com (www.apartments.com), a leading national online apartment guide, and the National Apartment Association (NAA) today announced that they will partner to develop an Internet module for the National Apartment Leasing Professional (NALP) certification program.

The new module will teach leasing professionals the best strategies for attracting potential residents online and converting them to signed renters. Apartments.com is also helping to revamp the overall course and develop new distance-learning options.

The new module will focus on marketing to the growing online population, with particular emphasis on Internet advertising, web site partnerships, utilizing national destination sites, online etiquette, online lead generation and follow-up, and new online technology and services.

"We are very pleased that Apartments.com believes that the education of our industry professionals is worthy of their time and effort," said Douglas S. Culkin, CAE, CIE, (Certified Association Executive, Certified Insurance Counselor), executive vice president of NAA. "Partnerships like this are invaluable to the continuity and success of our education and certification efforts. We are grateful to Apartments.com for their support," he said.

The new module will be completed by early-June and incorporated into the NALP certification program, which is designed to teach leasing professionals the skills needed to help them become top producers. Since leasing professionals are usually the first people prospective residents meet, it is increasingly important that they portray the quality of the property's staff. The NALP program currently has 1,200 designates in good standing.

"Apartments.com believes that it is our obligation to be more than just a service provider to the multi-family industry," said Greg Seyller, national director of sales, Apartments.com. "By working closely with the NAA to improve such an important program, Apartments.com can make an impact on the success of leasing professionals and the industry as a whole."

"This is the perfect time to add an Internet module to the NALP program," said Lisa Trosien, a leading industry expert in targeted use of the Internet for marketing, leasing, training, resident retention and research. "The Internet is still in its infancy and is destined to become one of the most prominent tools for leasing professionals, and I am extremely pleased that Apartments.com is sharing its Internet marketing knowledge to the benefit of all leasing professionals."
