CHICAGO, June 9, 2008 –Apartments.com announced today the winner of the first-ever “What’s Your FQ?” Sweepstakes for new college graduates. Dan Oswalt, a 2008 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin), was chosen as the grand prize winner and will receive more than $20,000 in cash and prizes. The grand prize package includes a year of free rent from Apartments.com, $10,000 in supplemental income and a Career Fast-Track Pack including resume writing services and $1,000 for an interview wardrobe from CBCampus.com.
“Dan is representative of the thousands of college graduates entering the real world this spring,” said Tammy Kotula, public relations and promotions manager, Apartments.com. “Faced with post-graduate realities such as finding a place to live and a job during hard economic times can be a daunting experience for anyone fresh out of college. Apartments.com is delighted to award Dan with a real world payoff, through the “What’s Your FQ?” Sweepstakes grand prize package, sure to give him a leg up as he begins this new stage of his life.”
After his recent graduation from UT-Austin with a degree in computer science, Dan relocated to Houston, Texas, to begin his first real-world job and secure his first one-bedroom apartment. Apartments.com and CBCampus.com recently named Houston as one of the “Top Ten Best Cities for Recent Graduates” for its affordable rent prices, high inventory of entry-level jobs and large resident population of young adults.
“The most I've ever won is a $50 gift card,” said Dan Oswalt, the “What’s Your FQ?” Sweepstakes winner. “I feel so fortunate to be able to live rent free, pay off my student loans and still have money left over to put money down on a car. Winning the ‘What’s Your FQ?’ Sweepstakes has given me a head start on my life—and all without going into debt!”
The “What’s Your FQ?” Sweepstakes was created by Apartments.com, in conjunction with CBCampus.com and Freecreditreport.comTM, to help this year’s spring graduates calculate their “Freedom Quotient” (FQ) and find out if The Class of 2008 had what it takes to make it after graduation. Soon-to-be college graduates who visited www.WhatsYourFQ.com were asked a series of nine humorous questions regarding their knowledge of searching for a job, renting an apartment and managing credit and debt—a reality check for the real world. The FQ Quiz Analysis and Web site, WhatsYourFQ.com, provided tips and articles to ease the passage from college into the real world. Only college students graduating between March 31, 2008 and June 30, 2008 were eligible for the “What’s Your FQ?” Sweepstakes.
In addition to the grand prize winner, three runner-up winners each received free rent for a month from Apartments.com and Job Jumpstart Packs from CBCampus.com. New graduates looking for a leg up can still visit www.WhatsYourFQ.com to access searchable comprehensive databases of apartments and jobs, from around the country, and insider tips and informative articles on how to make a more seamless transition to post-college living.
