      Akron itself is a large metro area. The city is home to more than 199,000 people, according to the 2010 US Census. This large city is broken into various neighborhoods, with about 21 localized neighborhoods making up the city itself. Some of the largest include Maple Valley, which is at the western portion of Copley Road. Closer to Canton Road, Goodyear Heights is another popular neighborhood. The Oakdale Historic District is the location of many of the oldest homes in the area. It is a popular spot for tourism because of the architecture present here. Another prominent neighborhood in Akron is Spicertown. It is closer to University Park, which is a college-heavy area of the city. Downtown is towards the eastern area of the city. This is the home of mostly large businesses and the college, though some homes are here as well.

      In addition to these main neighborhoods, Akron has numerous suburbs, including Fairlawn, Canton, Stow, Tallmadge, and Mogadore. Each of these is its own city, though.

      Akron, located about 39 miles to the south of Lake Erie's shoreline is one of the larger cities in the state. Just 30 minutes from Cleveland, it is Cleveland's smaller sister to the south that often attracts visitors for cultural activities. This includes the Akron Symphony Orchestra and the Children's Concert SocietyE. J. Thomas Hall is one of the three largest performing venues in the area. And, the Akron Art Museum is a fixture here. Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens ranks number seven on the list of the Largest Historic Homes in the United States. Add to that the city's numerous festivals, including First Night, a New Year's Eve celebration, the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club, a national golfing tournament, and the National Hamburger Festival.

      There's one thing all Ohioans are passionate about and that's their sports teams. There's a lot to be proud of when it comes to Akron's claim to fame. National Basketball Association superstar Lebron James is a native to the city, having played in the area's grade and high schools prior to entering the NBA. Aside from this, the city has plenty of sports pastimes to get involved with. That includes the Akron RubberDucks, a minor league baseball league and the Akron Racers, a National Pro Fastpitch team. The Summit County Fairgrounds Arena ComplexCanal Park, and Firestone Stadium are all large venues used for sporting activities.

      Then, there's the passion behind college sports present in Akron. The city is home to the University of Akron, which is the home of the Akron Zips. This team plays in the NCAA and Mid-American Conference.

      Transportation in Akron, OH

      Akron is easy to get to and easy to get around in. This is due to the numerous large highways and freeway systems that connect most of the town to the surrounding areas. Several main thoroughfares run through the city, including I-77, which connects the city to Cleveland to the north, as well as to Marietta. I-76 runs through the city and connects Akron to I-71, and the Youngstown area. The Akron Innerbelt is the ideal way to get into and around the downtown portion of the city. It is short, at only a few miles long, but serves as a connection point to numerous other freeways. I-277 runs east to west in the city as well.

      In terms of airports, the Akron-Canton Regional Airport is the main local option, though Cleveland Hopkins Airport, an international airport that is significantly larger, is about 30 minutes to the north of the city as well.
