Rated 4 out of 5?by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5?by Charming and convenient I've lived in a one bedroom at Villa D'est for just under a year, and my spouse and I have been really happy with it. The complex is set back from the road by a little private drive, which makes it feel calm and secluded. My spouse and I have found the superintendents, David and Miranda, to be incredibly kind and helpful. They go out of their way to keep the grounds well-maintained, planting flowers in the spring and summer, hanging Christmas lights in the winter, and salting and shoveling the walkways when it snows. The complex seems to be run from a remote office, which can be contacted by phone; I've only spoken to one staff member there, Barbara, who was also friendly and helpful. This place is modest, cheerful, and cozy. We've found most of our neighbors to be quite friendly, or at worst neutral. For the most part, it is quiet, and it feels safe. We can occasionally hear some noise from our neighbors' apartments, but not much. The area does have some people who are pretty down on their luck, and the local church hosts a soup kitchen, so there are sometimes homeless people in the drive that leads off the main road and towards the complex. We haven't had any trouble with them, or really any interactions with them at all, and the only people who come into the complex itself seem to be residents and their visitors. There is a lot of convenient shopping nearby; I drive, but I think this area would be livable for someone without a car, too. There aren't too many sidewalks, so walking might be kind of treacherous along the major roads, but there seem to be a fair number of buses that stop by the local shopping complexes. We've only had some minor maintenance issues (one of our windows wouldn't stay open, for instance), and they were resolved quickly and efficiently. I rated the maintenance service "Good" rather than "Excellent" because sometimes it takes a while for our drive and parking lot to get plowed out in the winter. (To be fair, though, this year's winter was especially brutal in terms of snowfall.) There are laundry machines in a common area of each apartment building, and there seem to be more than enough. In the year that I've lived here, I've only had to wait for someone else to finish before I could start my laundry once. The machines are nothing remarkable, but perfectly functional. The one time that a dryer broke, it was repaired in the next week or so. Each cycle of a washer or dryer costs $2, which seems fairly standard. There are also several local laundromats, some of which offer free drying, but I haven't found that to be more enticing than the convenience of having a machine a few steps away from my door. Our apartment itself is spacious and comfortable. It was clean and freshly painted/polished when we moved in. The closets, which are recessed into the walls, feature a ton of storage space, and they even have lights inside. The apartment maintains its temperature well; it stays cozy and warm in the winter, and the central cooling works well in the summer. The windows and sliding balcony door are a plus; we get so much natural light through the windows that we almost never use the lights during the daytime, and between the windows and the ceiling fans in the kitchen and bedroom, sometimes the cross-breeze is so refreshing that we don't even need the air-conditioning. The buildings are surrounded by trees, which helps to keep them cool in the summer, and also provides an environment for some wildlife that I find pretty charming. There are a number of stray cats in the area, as well as chipmunks, tiny little toads, and the occasional deer. We haven't had any problems with bugs, except for the occasional spider or caterpillar that had hitched a ride into the apartment on someone's shoes. On the whole, we have loved living here, and are planning to renew our lease. If we did not need to move in the future for career reasons, we would probably stay for several more years. June 10, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5?by Way too expensive The apartments are cozy, meaning small, old, not updated, layers of paint over old paint. Way too expensive - no amenities. I found an apartment, cheaper, washer & dryer in the apartment, three pools, sauna, exercise room, quiet and every one seems very nice. Not giving the name, I don't want everyone running over! Rated 5 out of 5?by Not yet... I haven't moved back to New York yet, but I feel in my heart that this is my new home...the office staff (Marie) was so kind and understanding when I spoke to her...I can't wait for my next visit to New York and I will be checking out the property...my sister-in-laws sister lives near the property and raves about it...Thank you...
