Rated 2 out of 5?by Sleepless in Gordonhurst A Genteel State of Lack of Upkeep in an Unbeatable Location. Gordonhurst Village Apartments are located in a great location close to shops, the bus, the train and 2 parks in Upper Montclair. That being said, it?s downhill from there. One of the first things you?ll notice as you visit, is the general state of lack of maintenance of the grounds and buildings. Not in a broken glass and graffiti sense, but that it appears evident that no one has been on top of it for a while and that perhaps the complex has seen better days. The fact that the buildings are solidly built is both the blessing and curse of Gordonhurst Village. The same sturdy walls that keep the sounds of the tenants across the hall muffled also act as funnels for sound (or eye-watering and nostril burning cooking odors) coming from tenants above or below you. It?s like living in an echo chamber where the sound someone else?s conversation seems to come out of the very walls and heavy footfalls drum incessantly. But, if you value community living, this might be an asset, because not only do you have neighbors, but you feel as if they are living as univited guests in your apartment. The supers who live on site, a husband wife team, seem to take a hands-off approach toward their responsibilities and it may take up to several weeks to have maintanence issues tended to - after repeated calls, emails and requests in person. They will never tell you they are not going to fix whatever it is. It?s just that, after they have not come for 2 weeks, it?s time to start asking again. They seem like nice enough people and one has the sense that they are overwhelmed with other things, or at least want it to appear that way, and that your issue is way, way down on the list. I really wanted to write a more positive review of Gordonhurst Village. The architecture is attractive. It?s a great location. But if you move here, you should have an idea of what you may be getting into. November 24, 2012
