    • Kansas City, Missouri is the largest city in Missouri, and the center of a metropolitan area that has over two million residents. It is also the county seat of Jackson County. This city is so large that there is always something happening, and jobs are plentiful in a variety of industries. Whether you're moving to Kansas City, MO for work, school, or just for a change of pace or a new adventure, here's what you need to know about the city before making it your home.

Finding Apartments for Rent in Kansas City, MO

With over two million residents, you will have no trouble at all finding an apartment. Apartment communities of all kinds abound all over the city. Since people of all income levels and family situations live there, that means there are apartments to fit every budget, lifestyle, floor plan preference and desired neighborhood. Apartment prices range from super high for a snazzy penthouse downtown, to really inexpensive for a three-bedroom for a family in one of the city's hundreds of residential areas.

Top Neighborhoods in Kansas City, MO

With over 240 neighborhoods, there are a lot of contenders for top neighborhood in Kansas City. One of the most modern neighborhoods is Downtown, with its huge revitalization project going on. Downtown has condos, apartments, lots and lots of high-rise corporate buildings for an easy commute to work, plenty of shopping and restaurants, and even a performing arts center for those who enjoy that type of culture.

There are also the historic Westport and Ivanhoe neighborhoods for people who love to live in and amidst a bit of history. These areas have a number of historic homes, and the people who live there take great pride in keeping up these homes in a manner that maintains their historical integrity. The historic areas are also considered to be quite family friendly and are near good schools.

The Country Club Plaza neighborhood is perfect for families of higher incomes that want a unique place to live that's set apart from the rest of the town while still being part of it. This neighborhood is a big shopping district with residential areas scattered about it, so the whole vibe of the neighborhood revolves around upscale shopping. It's perfect if you work in retail (it makes an easy commute) or just simply love to shop.

Cultural Attractions in Kansas City, MO

Kansas City's farmer's market has existed since the city was founded in 1857, and it continues to be very popular today. It is one of the largest farmer's markets in the midwest. The market is open year-round, and there are over 30 merchants who sell their wares there full-time. Plenty of other vendors come to the market on a seasonal basis to sell everything from fresh produce to locally made artisanal goods.

Irish culture is also huge in Kansas city. It has the largest number of Irish-Americans in the midwest, with around 250,000 people. This community has its own stores, newspaper, bands and museum. You don't have to be Irish to enjoy these things. The public at large is welcome to take part in the city's Irish-themed activities and to learn a little bit more about Irish culture and history as they do so.

      Sports in Kansas City, MO

Kansas City is the home of some professional sports teams. These include the Kansas City Chiefs football team, the Kansas City Royals baseball team, and the Sporting Kansas City soccer team. The National Women's Soccer League began to play in Kansas City as its home city in 2013. The city even has a rugby team in the Kansas City Blues RFC.

      Weather in Kansas City, MO

Kansas City is positioned at the geographic center of the nation. It is also located where the Mississippi and Kansas rivers collide. Though the city does have four distinct seasons, most of the year has fairly mild weather throughout the year. Summer and winter do have the potential for extremes in hot and cold weather, but these periods are usually fleeting. July is the hottest month of the year, with temperatures averaging in the low 80's, while January is the coldest month of the year, with temperatures averaging in the low 30's. There is sometimes snow, but it usually doesn't stay on the ground long, or accumulate very much. There is typically just enough for the kids to get out and enjoy making a snowman or enjoy throwing some snowballs, and once in a while, they will be lucky enough to get a "snow day" from school.

Of larger interest is Kansas City's location at the outer edge of the midwest's Tornado Alley. This area experiences frequent tornadoes, as the name would suggest. There are occasionally severe tornado outbreaks in the metropolitan area of Kansas City, though these usually come decades apart. The most recent was in 2003, and the one before that was in 1957. The city's proximity to the Mississippi River and the Kansas River also means it is subjected to occasional flooding, with the two most recent floods being in 1993 and 1951, respectively.
