Rated 4 out of 5?by Good community, but forced to move. A little out of the way, but very pet friendly, central AC, and an actual garage! Nearby Costco, Walmart, and other commercial areas. Watch out for the extreme hike in your rent when lease expires, though. Ours went up $230/month with the cheapest option. October 18, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5?by New Move In - My experience month one! We've only been living here about a month, so this review will based mainly on the moving, move-in & immediate concerns we had. We moved from another home on the island with a change in jobs, aka reduced income. Nothing in Hawaii is cheap, and every place I looked at for $2k a month was a dump. My cap was $2,400 a month, and needed a 3 bedroom. Every time I looked elsewhere, this was the place that I kept coming back to. Close to everything in Kapolei (we love this area), rent was within our budget & the paperwork, move-in date flexibility & assistance were made so easy by Linda & the staff. I was on a tight timeline & short on extra money for deposits, appliances, etc - Kalaeloa homes here charges a reduced deposit & Washer & Dryer included. This is vital to us at a time we were out of time, money & options. They do only take money order or personal check, or you can set up & pay online. With that said: these houses are older, some are backed up against the busy roadway that has traffic night & day (all except one home available were like that, we took the one in the neighborhood). Depending on the home, the kitchens are 80-90s wood / style, old appliances & old vinyl tile flooring. We moved from a 3 year old house with everything brand new, so take it for what it's worth - we were very spoiled! This has a standard fridge, standard oven, etc - no microwave, no Ceiling fans (had to buy), but does come with garbage disposals & a dishwasher (we almost never use anyway) & washer & dryer. It does have central a/c however - which is critical here with two floors (bedrooms up stairs) WITH fans in the rooms. I'd prefer ceiling fans as I hate fans just standing around , but it all works out. So, issues: in the first month we had to replace the fridge & the washer and have a toilet repaired along with a busted sprinkler head flooding into the street. We were given notice of a fine 5 days later if I didn't remove the boxes from the carport from moving - 3 days before bulk trash pickup. The trash, recycle & bulk are strict, only in the can & bulk is once a month - with NO boxes being picked up as trash ??? I got lucky, no fine & all was picked up, but wow - there is a dump down the road worst case though. The water heater & a/c were new last year as well - literally only the old oven & old dryer remain at this point ....nothing is replaced until it breaks & the original stuff is OLD. With that: each issue we had, was immediately addressed to the maintenance staff or the community office staff. Everything was fixed the next day except for the fridge failing to hold temp on a Friday, almost caused all the food to go bad by Monday when it was replaced. Close, but it was taken care of. They have weekend & emergency maintenance on call with the guys being fast, friendly & fixed any issue we had. Excellent thus far. There is not a garage, but a covered car port & separate parking appt assigned, plus a storage closet as part of the house (door in the carport) that is large, shelves & works great for the extras (surfboards , tools, kids stuff, etc). The yards are small, easy to care for (I don't have pets, but they also have a large new dog park here that looks awesome actually), decent size porch & nice little play areas & grill pits scattered between the homes. We are on the approach path to HNL , so while nothing like the Waterfront Carmel Homes (much closer = jets much lower !!!), there is a constant flow of aircraft overhead normally. Doesn't bother me, but others it might. No Issues with bugs & zero Mosquitos !!! I moved from a place you couldn't walk out your door without 3 bites, but here there are Knats everywhere outside swarming your legs & body. They don't bite, my son can ignore them somehow (!) but they drive me crazy. Fly strips, traps, spray - nothing has worked. It could also be the two dogs living next to us that are attracting them, who knows. Lizards, Geckos & butterflies - only have seen one huge cockroach & it was dead. No spiders, just some ants out in the yard we put bait out for since they were destroying our plants. I've seen one car on my street with a busted window & a tow sticker on the window, but haven't heard or seen any crime or thefts here yet. My buddy lived here prior for 2.5 years & said they never had an issue. In the end, I haven't found a better staff, better rent, lower deposit, better maintenance , rental home with W&D & location close to everything you'd want & need (5 -10 mins away) than here. If you're spoiled like I was without a checking account, it will be smaller, (downsize) & older & kinda a rough transition the first month. We're settled in now, setting everything up online soon & will see how it works out once we get our first electric bill!!! Great place, worth it unless you can pay $3000 / mo plus utilities, or have well paid roommates for a new place elsewhere. For a small family on a budget - this is perfect. Recommend highly. Rated 5 out of 5?by Spacious homes Was looking for a home and everything seemed so small. Had a friend refer me to a woman named Linda who helped her with her home. Nice Lady and very helpful. I am enjoying my new home. It's spacious and I have a privacy fence. Last home charged to add on a privacy fence so I appreciate that they do not here. By far best place i have lived in here in Oahu. Rated 5 out of 5?by All around great place to live The Kalaeloa staff really make it a great place to live. Everyone from the office staff, maintenance staff, and even the contracted security staff are so friendly and helpful. Any concerns I may have they listen to and do their best to reconcile. The community holds events throughout the year such as Easter egg hunts, movie nights, luau's, and even baking contest. Any maintenance issues I have had were resolved within 24 hours. My children make use of the playground and basketball courts and I make use of the gym. The beach is 2 miles away and almost anything you may want or need is nearby. There are restaurants, movie theater, grocery stores, retailers of all kinds in the immediate area. The rents are comparable if not better for what you get in comparison to other rentals in the area. The only thing I can say that could use some improvements in the area are the roads and the windows. The roads are bad in most areas in the community and should be repaved. The windows allow for poor energy efficiency if you have the central AC on and the screens also allow for too many bugs to get through if there's a bend in the frame. Nonetheless, these are not deal breakers but just observations I've seen. I enjoy living here so I renewed my 12 month lease and plan on staying here until I buy my own home. July 5, 2014

Rated 4 out of 5?by Good Complex Kalaeloa Rental Homes is a good place to stay in Hawaii if you are looking for a family oriented place. We stayed in the 3 bedroom Makai neighborhood that is refurbished with faux stainless steel and granite finishes. It was very spacious and had tons of storage. Ms Nani was also very helpful when we had to move out early due to military orders. She helped us through the whole transition process from the pre move out inspection to making sure we were settled once we had left Kalaeloa. June 9, 2014
